Hump Day

Today was another great day.  We went back to the high school to begin our 3rd day of the construction project.  There were many housekeeping items to be taken care of before we pour another sidewalk on the final day.  We had to straighten up the the two piles of sand and gravel used in concrete mixing, give a general "pick me up" to the whole construction area, paint the walls next to the new sidewalk and prep the area where we will pour concrete again tomorrow.  All in all, it was a low key day.  Many things to be done, but not too much hard labor.

The highlight of our day came after lunch and before VBS as we all traveled, along with the Houston group, to Helen Lacey's home.  We all got a tour of her house and the surrounding property and the church across the street.  We were able to view her guest books which she has saved over the years and got to see the signatures of the Yazoo group that came down here in May of '91.  It was a sweet moment to be able to look at the names of those who came before us and of all but one who are no longer with us.  We then rode over to the medical clinic for a brief tour.  It was a sweet time for many of our group to spend with Helen, though some had gotten to have lunch with her this past Sunday.  We have pictures from our time with her, but you'll have to wait for the slideshow back home to see them.

VBS yesterday, as I said, wasn't the smoothest and most enjoyable, but today we all had a blast and our teams gelled in perfect harmony to make it a great success.  We did a skit lesson and songs with all of the kids, who were more numerous than the 150 yesterday, and then we sent the oldest kids off to play soccer, and divided what was left into four groups rotating between snacks, games, crafts, and face painting.  We were all able to intimately interact with the kids, and it was a great time.

Thank you so much for your prayers!  We go to our last day of construction and VBS tomorrow.  We are excited to be complete the work we came here to do, but it will also be bittersweet to say goodbye to two different sites and sets of people we have come so accustomed and close to in just a few days.  Friday will be our fun day. More details to come!  Check out the Belize photo album for pics from today!
